Few teams did as little as the New Jersey Devils did this offseason. For fans in New Jersey, this doesn’t bode well for a team that was in the pool amongst the worst in the league. In fact, the biggest announcement from the Devils didn’t come in the form of an acquisition (fans of Palmieri would beg to differ), rather the announcement of Captain Bryce Salvador’s recent retirement. The only other big story for the Devils this offseason was their 27th year general manager, Lou Lamoriello, stepping down and heading to Toronto. Former Penguins general manager, Ray Shero, now steps in.bryce-salvador1

The greatest weakness for the Devils is quite obvious. They fail to consistently find the back of the net. In the NHL today, your top scoring performer should not only have 43 total points in an 82 game season. This very same glaring issue will again factor in very much to a team that will most likely fall in the bottom 3-5 worst teams next season. Defense on the other hand is rarely a hindrance for the Devils, as they are known for this very style of play. Cory Schneider is also a very solid goaltender, easily amongst the top 10 in the league. This is a team in a rebuild (mainly amongst forwards), it’s obviously going to be a few more years before they’ll contend for anything, including a Playoff spot.

2015-2016 Season Projection: 8th in the Metropolitan Division
