Why James Harden Should Sign With Adidas

harden_dunk_rockets_300350NBA Star James Harden has received a monster offer from Adidas. In an attempt to get Harden to sign with their brand, Adidas offered Harden $200 million over the next 13 years. This brings to mind monster deal, this time presented by Under Armour to former teammate Kevin Durant. Durant’s deal was reportedly worth up to $285 million over 10 years. Durant ultimately chose to stay on board with Nike after they matched the offer. At the moment, it seems Nike is not willing to do the same with Harden. The choice is clear for Harden: He should sign with Adidas.

Nike already has a crowded line of athletes with signature shoes featuring the biggest names in the NBA. LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving all have their own signature shoe. Adidas has signed young, promising talent like Damian Lillard and John Wall to their own shoe deals. Adidas’ signature line also features Harden’s fellow teammate, Dwight Howard. It seems as though Harden will not receive his own signature shoe at Nike, making Adidas the clear choice to increase his brand.

While Nike is the bigger brand, Adidas is coming fast. Adidas landed Kanye West last year after a fallout with Nike, putting them back on the map. With young stars like Andrew Wiggins, John Wall, and Damian Lillard, the addition of Harden and his own signature shoe would be huge for both Harden and the Adidas brand. Harden would be the biggest addition for Adidas in recent memory and he would become the NBA face of the brand. The question shouldn’t be, “Will James Harden accept Adidas’ offer?” It should be, “Why hasn’t he accepted it yet?”
