Turn Right Into Victory Lane

Usually turning right in NASCAR means something bad, expect this weekend has the drivers turning both left and right. Who is gonna make the right turn into Victory Lane?cheezeit355

This weekend NASCAR visits it’s second and final road course race of the year. First let’s take look at the track first itself. Watkins Glen has total of 11 turns which is different then last week race at Pocono which had 3 turns, and NASCAR tracks usually have 4 turns. Some drivers are not really good at the road course some look at it as it’s only 2 races a year and we can run bad those 2 races, while other drivers try to get help from what they call road course ringers (meaning these drivers are known to being good at the road courses and has alot of experience at these races).  Who is the favorite going into this weekend?Tony-Stewart

First, we have got the all time winner at Watkins Glen who is Tony Stewart who has 5 wins at the track, in 2013 Tony was racing in a Sprint Car race and broke his leg and he missed that race and rest of that season for surgery, and recovery, one year later same weekend at this track the night before Tony was in another Sprint Car race his car hit another driver and killed him. Tony sat out that race and three races after that for respect of the family. Tony hasn’t won here since 2009. Can he win to get into the chase and finally have redemption for last 2 years.

jeff-gordonSecond, we have the guy who is right behind him in wins. With the story of can he win in his final start at the Glen. Jeff Gordon has 4 wins here, but Jeff hasn’t taken the right into victory lane since 2001. Jeff has been close a few times though. Most memorable moment was in 2007 when Jeff went to hard into turn 1 and spun himself out letting, Tony get win number 4 at the Glen. Last year Gordon had the best car but he had an electrical problem costing him the win.

Third, we have last years winner A.J. Allmendinger. A.J. got his first and only career win up to this point at the Glen which also sent him into the chase last year. A.J. is known for being very good at the road course races so he can win. Can he repeat what happen last year get his second career win and get back into the chase?

KevinHarvickFourth, we have defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Kevin Harvick who is good at the road course races and has one career win to his name back in 2006. Kevin always runs good at these races, but since moving over to Stewart-Haas Racing he has the car to beat every single week always qualifying, and running up front. Can Harvick get his second win of the year and get his second career win on a road course?

My pick this weekend to win is…..Jeff Gordon knowing his history at the road course races and this being his final time racing at a road course. Jeff will do everything he can to win and also if he wins he will have a spot in the chase so everything comes down to making right turns this weekend.
