A Statement Week For the Jay’s

This Years Team vs. Last Years Team

jayslogo1 year ago at this time it was the Kansas Cit Royals who had the longest play-off drought in the major leagues. The Royals eventually alleviated that problem by winning the American League Wild Card and riding that momentum to an eventual World Series birth.

Now, the team with the longest postseason drought is the Toronto Blue Jays. They too have a talented enough team to win the Wild Card and ride that momentum to a World Series birth.

And it just so happens these two teams are clashing in Toronto. Last night the Jay’s kept their ship afloat vs. newly acquired ace Johnny Cueto and then won in extra innings. Plus they won the first game of the series 5-2 as well giving them at least a split in the 4 game set with the Royals that concludes Sunday. The Jays have not played meaningful games in October since they won back-to-back World Series Titles in 1992-93. This series could be the start of changing that.

Wild Card Roundup

RogersCenterThen their week concludes with yet another 4 game series with the postseason contending Minnesota Twins. Of the last 30 meetings at the Rodgers Center, the Blue Jays have won 21 of them. Their last meeting this year was in Minneapolis on May 29th-31st with the Twins taking 2 of those 3 games.

But, it must be noted, none of these teams are constructed today like they were just a few days ago. The Royals have added the afore mentioned Johnny Cueto, and super utility player and switch hitter Ben Zobrist, The Twins got Ervin Santana back fro his PED suspension and added a bullpen piece in Jepsen from the Ray’s And of-course the Toronto Blue are going all in by adding Troy Tulowitzki, LaTroy Hawkins, Derick Lowe, Ben Revere and David Price.

If the Jay’s can win both series, it would certainly be a statement. What if they win 3 out of 4 from the Royals and the Twins? Just think of the air that would give them under their little blue wings as they soar into the play-offs.
