Chicago hosted Big 10 Media Day earlier this week, and the biggest bombshell was dropped by Ohio State Head Coach Urban Meyer. The school announcement was that Joey Bosa, along with H-back Jalin Marshall, senior receiver Corey Smith and junior H-back Dontre Wilson, will miss the Sept. 7 opener at Virginia Tech for violating athletic department policy. The nature of the violations were not immediately disclosed.

“A violation of team policies. That’s as far as I’ll go,” was all the additional information coach Urban Meyer provided. Although, Meyer did say the violations had nothing to do with players breaking any laws. Meyer then went on to say he has known for a while that the suspensions were coming and that he is “100 percent supportive” of the policies.

Losing four key players, the likes of Marshall was Ohio State’s second-leading receiver last season with 38 catches, while Smith was also expected to play a big role in the offense, could significantly impact the Buckeyes’ chances of starting 1-0 and ultimately repeating.

The Buckeyes do open the season as the pre-season #1 in the Amway Coaches Poll. Below is the full Top 25 for week 1.
