WWE Battleground 2015 Predictions

20150610_Battleground_TOUT

This Sunday, the WWE presents Battleground, live on the WWE Network, from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO.  This really is the “go home” live event for the Wrestlemania-of-the-summer, Summer Slam.  What happens on Sunday can only build the tension for what’s to come in August.

Main Event: WWE Championship Match

Seth Rollins (c) vs. Brock Lesnar

Lesnar Rollins

With the WWE title on the line, no support available from the Authority from Kane or J&J Security, and an ever-present-and-dangerous possibility of a Sheamus cash-in, Seth Rollins has to bring something special to this match.  Plan B perhaps?  I have no doubt that we are going to see an extensive and detailed trip through Suplex City, but I can’t help but feel there is going to be some type of interference in Rollins’ favor.

Prediction: Rollins retains the title

Cena Owens

U.S. Championship Match

John Cena (c) vs. Kevin Owens

After losing his NXT championship and making it his point to ensure that if anyone were going to take the U.S. Championship title away from John Cena, it was going to be him, Kevin Owens seems the odds-on favorite to take home gold Sunday night.  He has the motivation, he has the drive, he has a clean victory over Cena from Elimination Chamber, but he also has made a lot of enemies over the last several months of his WWE run.

Prediction: Cena via DQ from interference from either Cesaro or Rusev as neither are on the card in their own matches.

Tag

Tag Team Championship Match

Prime Time Players (c) vs. The New Day

I’m not saying that it hasn’t been enjoy able to have the New Day behind the eight ball and build their momentum back toward the WWE Tag Team Championship, but I don’t believe that the Prime Time Players’ reign has made me excited.  I think that the tag division is building up from a deficit of late,  minus the injury-laden tag teams of the Usos and  Cesaro/Tyson Kidd, but I don’t believe that the Prime Time Players are the legitimate best tag team who is healthy either.

Prediction: The New Day win back the Tag Team belts.

Reigns Wyatt

Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt

It’s been an intriguing build-up towards this match: tea parties, mind games, body doubles, sneak attacks, and a zillion photos of Roman Reigns with his eyes gouged out.  While I would never have thought a match between Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt would have me eager to tune in, both being big men who are working on their in-ring abilities and both having suffered criticism for the lack-there-of, I will be paying close attention to this match.  I will be greatly disappointed if there isn’t more mind games.  I believe that we could see a black-out and a video of Reigns’ daughter tied up in the back, a staged kidnapping of some kind that distracts Roman, leading Wyatt to the victory.

Prediction: Bray Wyatt for the win

Orton Sheamus

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

If this isn’t the feud that doesn’t end, I don’t know what is.  The only advantage to this match is for Sheamus to secure a win, making him look stronger and justify the choice of giving him the Money in the Bank briefcase.  I’m not looking forward to Sheamus’ eventual cashing-in, at any point, and I haven’t heard much rumbling about this match on social media, so I can’t say that anyone much cares about this match, me included.

Prediction: Snoozer, but Sheamus takes the victory

IC

Intercontinental Championship Match

#1 Contendership for the Intercontinental Championship

The Big Show vs. The Miz

Due to the injury to Ryback, this match has now been completely removed from the card. This gives WWE some leeway now to add another match or develop more rivalries in backstage segments. They may add Miz vs. Dean Ambrose, or have a match involving Stardust that will evolve into the plan to have him feud with the star of CW’s Arrow. Or, possibly a divas match.

Kickoff

True King of the Ring Title

King Barrett vs. R-Truth

The featured match on the WWE Battleground Kickoff show is a match up that is going to settle the age old question: who is going to put an end to the inane feud???  Whoever comes out on top will take away the title of “King” and I can only hope that it’s R-Truth, not because I think he deserves it, but because Barrett is too good for the losing streak that comes with it.

Prediction: King R-Truth

Other Predictions for Battleground

Women

WWE Women’s Division: There is nothing official noted for the women, NXT or WWE roster, but I have a feeling that we will be seeing them, most likely via a backstage promo.  It would be a waste to ignore the huge statement made on Monday Night Raw with the addition of four new women and three new factions.  Watch for trash talk, maybe even a little pushing and shoving, but it most likely will be the next step towards a 9-woman tag match at Summer Slam.

Ambrose

Dean Ambrose: It’s hard to believe that just one month ago Dean Ambrose was featured in the main event, WWE title match, and now he’s not even on the Battleground card.  That doesn’t mean that he won’t make his presence known.  It would be too obvious for him to show up in Reigns’ corner, as he’s been since the mind games began with Wyatt at Money in the Bank, but that’s what makes it most likely to happen.  I believe that we will see him ring-side, but per my prediction above that Wyatt will win, it won’t be enough to save the pin fall on Reigns or keep Roman’s daughter safe.

Undertaker

The Dead Man: Massive amounts of rumors have been swirling around the WWE Universe and dirt sheets about the Undertaker (and Sting) having matches on next month’s Summer Slam card.  It’s also been said that the Dead Man will make an appearance on this week’s Monday Night Raw.  Not only do I predict that we are going to see the Undertaker on Sunday at Battleground, but I boldly predict that he is going to be Seth Rollins’ savior, as he seeks revenge on Lesnar for ending the streak.

I gotta say, this is the best written WWE blog I’ve seen for quite some time. Others come off as if they’ve got the inside scoop, (Scoop! Scoop!) but this just seems authentic. Bravo!
