NXT Review: Number One Contenders

Welcome to another NXT review!

What would be the fallout from the NXT Championship title change from “The Beast in the East” WWE live event in Tokyo just four days ago?   A recap package addressed the highlights, but without any from the Kevin Owens vs Finn Balor match.  Rich Brennen announced it would be replayed during tonight’s broadcast.

To kickoff the live action, we get Dana Brooke and Emma vs. the NXT Women’s Champion, Sasha Banks and an unknown partner.  The guts of Sasha Banks provoked her to accept the challenge of 2-on-1 because she wasn’t scared of “Miss Piggy,” Dana Brooke.  Before the action got started, Charlotte came to the ring, offering to be Sasha’s partner on the condition that she would be owed one.  After a strong showing by all four athletes, Sasha was able to get Dana in a Bank Statement submission hold, while Charlotte held off Emma in her own Figure 8.

Winners: Sasha Banks & Charlotte via submission to a Bank Statement.  Before the ring cleared, Charlotte decided to cash-in her “IOU” and asked for a title shot next week.    “That’s what you want?  Well guess what, sister, it’s on!”

An update from Bayley let us know that despite a broken hand via Emma, and not being able to wrestle this past week, she has her sights set on becoming NXT Women’s Champion.  She warned Emma that the next time she sees Emma

A broadcast of Saturday’s NXT championship match between Kevin Owens and Finn Balor reminded fans of the intensity that was inspired by this matchup.

In the back, Chad Gable explains why he believes Jason Jordan has turned down his offer to be a tag team partner: he wants to stay at the bottom of the totem pole.  He’s interrupted by Jordan when he finally accepts Gable’s offer and announcing that next week they would team up.

Solomon Crowe announces that he’s back: meaner, nastier than ever before.

Back in the ring, we are setup for the next match: Solomon Crowe vs. Marcus Louis.  Marcus reminds me of a young demon Kane; let’s hope his winning streak isn’t as demonic.  A solid return to the ring for NXT’s little monster.  Winner via Crowe Bar, Solomon Crowe.

Before the headlining tag team match, it was announced that an update on Sami Zayn would be made next week.

Winners via pin, the Vaudevillains
