‘Exhausted’ Jack Warner: If I have been thieving Fifa money for 30 years, who gave me the money?

Former FIFA vice president Jack Warner was photographed dancing at a political rally in Trinidad and Tobago – just hours after leaving prison in an ambulance due to exhaustion.

Warner, who was banned from football’s governing body due to corruption and bribery charges four years ago, is facing eight charges, including conspiracy to defraud and engage in racketeering as part of an ongoing investigation.

The 72 year-old left a Trinidad jail in an ambulance on Thursday. Judicial officer Ibrahim Ali said Warner had complained of exhaustion and would not be able to answer questions from reporters who had gathered outside the jail.

Later that night, he appeared at an Independent Liberal Party rally, where he was photographed dancing.

Warner was arrested as part of a major investigation into corruption within FIFA over the past three decades.

Bail for Warner was set at 2.5 million Trinidadian dollars – just under US$400,000. He was also forced to surrender his passport and must report to police twice-weekly.

However, despite the latest allegations Warner remained defiant, asking during a speech he gave at the ILP rally; “If I have been thieving Fifa money for 30 years, who gave me the money? How come he is not charged? Why only persons from Third World countries have been charged?”

Warner is currently facing extradition to the United States to stand trial.
