Cleat Geeks

Our hunger for the draft was finally satisfied. Not as many big trades that everything thought there might be, but nonetheless very entertaining. Most teams addressed their needs in the proper way, and we didn’t see teams like Oakland, Jacksonville, and Washington botch their picks like in previous years.  Here’s a quick draft recap:

Best draftwilliams1

Jets: The Jets got the best football player in the draft; Leonard Williams. They got a steal with him falling into their hands at the 6th pick. That D-line is only going to get more dangerous. Not to mention they got a solid wide out in Devin Smith and quarterback Bryce Petty.

Browns: Cleveland got 11 draft picks, which is fantastic. They addressed most of their needs both on the defensive and offensive side of the ball. Danny Shelton will make an immediate impact on their football team as well as Cameron Erving.

Falcons: With Vic Beasley and Jalen Collins Atlanta upgraded tremendously on a defense that was atrocious last year. Add another running back, Tevin Coleman, and they filled most of the gaps they had. Watch out NFC South.

Worst Draft

Bengals: Cincinnati had 9 picks. Basically all their draft picks have no chance of starting in week 1. You think they would have done better. Not a good draft for a very complacent team.

Colts:  The Colts did great in free agency getting some key players in Andre Johnson and Frank Gore. They become favorites to return to the AFC Championship game, but they had the worst draft. They drafted another WR. They should have used their early picks on the defensive side where they have some gaps to fill.

Most Shocking Picks

Redskins: They had arguably the best talent in the draft at their fingertips in Leonard Williams. Instead they chose Brandon Scherff, Guard out of Iowa. Very surprising pick, does address a need that they must fill because their line is terrible. We will see how well it pays off for them. This might be pick they will regret later.

Sleeper PicksMMariota

Titans: Titans made the sexy pick in Marcus Mariota, but I think the next pick they made in Dorial Green-Beckham was the sleeper pick of the draft. He’s got some really good size on him. This might be a nice 1-2 combo in the making.

Rams: Todd Gurley is a high risk high reward type player. Yes, he was injured, but his ceiling looks scary good. This was a great pick at the number 10 pick. They are going to get a great back that can produce productively right off the bat. Nick Foles and a running game might just get the rams over the hump.

Bold Prediction

Todd Gurley: He will win R.O.Y of the year behind the dominant offensive line that the Rams have. Jeff Fischer will make sure that this year the Rams are all about the run game. 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns.
