Newcastle’s crisis continues

NUFC-3Newcastle United have been hauled back into the relegation battle after a run of eight straight league defeats.

The Magpies were thrashed 3-0 by 17th place Leicester City on Saturday and are now just two points above the drop zone.

To make matters worse for Newcastle, Daryl Janmaat and Mike Williamson were both sent off in Saturday’s defeat, with 31 year-old Williamson being accused of deliberately getting himself dismissed for a second bookable offence by manager John Carver.

There were also reports suggesting captain Fabricio Coloccini and goalkeeper Tim Krul were involved in a row on the coach on the way back from the King Power Stadium.Fabricio+Coloccini

Carver was given the manager’s job in January until the end of the season after Alan Pardew left St James’ Park for Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.

The 50 year-old has endured a torrid time in the Newcastle hot seat, though, losing 12 of 17 games and seeing his side slip perilously close to the bottom three.

Rumours were rife that following Saturday’s defeat Carver would be stood down from his position, however the club today moved to rebuff those claims; “John, his staff and players are focused on the three fixtures that remain this season,” the club said.

“There have been two days of frank dialogue with John Carver and senior players.

carver“All parties accept responsibility for the current situation but are determined, together, to ensure this club retains its Premier League status.”

Newcastle’s three remaining Premier League fixtures are against West Brom and West Ham at home, with a trip to QPR sandwiched between them.
