Anthony Rizzo’s Bold Prediction
- Updated: April 8, 2015

By now, you probably heard that Chicago Cubs’ first baseman, Anthony Rizzo predicted the Cubs will win the NL Central title this season. “It’s going to happen this year,” Rizzo had said back before spring training even started. “Get to the postseason is what we’re going to do. We’re going to play; we’re going to win the NL Central. You guys will quote me on that.” Rizzo feels more confident with Joe Maddon as manager and Jon Lester in the rotation. He also said, “with all due respect to every team, they’re just as good, talent-wise. But we’re going to do some things this year. That’s what we’re expecting, and that’s what we’re putting our sights on and we’re not going to accept anything else.’’
But should he be making these predictions or should he just play baseball? Now being a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, I love his prediction! I’m ready to see it in action and optimism is a good thing. There’s also a part of me that thinks he should just let their skills do the talking. I think the team will do both, if the Cubs do get that far, Anthony Rizzo could even be in the running for MVP. I love the confidence the whole team has under Joe Maddon.
Who wouldn’t be excited? We have the top prospect, Kris Bryant, who by the way; has been killing it in spring training (sent to Triple A, but he’ll be back) and Maddon brings the team a new beginning and I don’t think it’s a bad thing that Rizzo made those comments. It makes the fans excited and it’s been forever since we could be this excited. Being a Cubs fan, I’m hopeful this season will finally be it.
