Wrestlemania 31 Predictions

Finally, the time has come for the biggest wrestling event of the year! Wrestlemania 31 takes place this Sunday, March 29 live from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA, and I’m here to enlighten you with my preview and predictions for this historic showcase. So let’s not waste any time, and get right to it!

The Fatal 4-Way match will kick off the festivities as Tyson Kidd and Cesaro defend their WWE Tag Team Titles against The New Day, Los Matadores and The Uso’s. This match should be fairly easy to predict simply based on who is involved. The New Day was introduced to us a few months ago, but simply has not had much of an impact on the fans or the tag team division making it very unlikely that they walk out with the belts. Los Matadores have become a novelty act of sorts lately, and honestly haven’t had that much television time or build up in recent memory which makes their odds in this match quite overwhelming as well. The Uso’s have had recent success, but had the belts for a while without really getting over with the fans and elevating the status of the titles.

Cesaro and Kidd will emerge victorious this Sunday

Cesaro and Kidd will emerge victorious this Sunday

Therefore, I’m going to say that Kidd and Cesaro will retain the titles and in fact hold onto them for quite some time. It’s no secret that Kidd is one of the best technical wrestlers on the entire roster, and people in the know always rave about the ability of Cesaro. Regardless of how they were sort of thrown together as a team, the two have made it work along with some help from Natalya. The WWE needs to capitalize on the talent of these three and allow them some time to bring some importance back to the tag team division. Winner – Tyson Kidd and Cesaro

The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal has some very intriguing entrants in Ryback,

The Celtic Warrior will make his presence known, Fella

Mark Henry, Big Show, Kane, The Miz, Titus O’Neil, Damien Mizdow and Zack Ryder to name a few. I have a feeling that we will get strong showings from Mark Henry, Ryback, The Big Show, and Kane. I also have a feeling the fans will have the pleasure of seeing Damien Mizdow asert himself and eliminate his oppressive and tyrannical employer The Miz. But the winner of the 2nd annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal will be none other than the Celtic Warrior Sheamus! I have a strong feeling that he will make his return as a surprise entrant in the battle royal and come out on top, which will give him strong momentum heading into his next feud. Winner – Sheamus

Next up we have The Bella Twins in a tag team match against the team of Paige and A.J. Lee. I am very disappointed that the Divas Title is not on the line on the grandest stage of them all, but understand why it is not and I will tell you why. There has clearly been trouble brewing between Paige and A.J., even though it has been facilitated brilliantly by Nikki. Also, lest we forget that it wasn’t that long ago when Brie and Nikki were at each other’s throats. It has been somewhat confusing that without explanation Brie suddenly became Nikki’s biggest supporter.

The Divas once again put on a great show

The Divas once again put on a great show

I have been very impressed with the work put in by all 4 of these ladies in recent weeks and have high hopes for this match as well, albeit a little less enthusiastic had it been a singles match. I forsee Brie finally deciding that wM31 is the place to finally put an end to the charade that she has been putting on and turning on Nikki costing them the match, thereby leading to a feud over the Divas Title. I will also predict that Paige and A.J. will generate some friction with each other, leading to an angle between the two best Divas wrestlers on the current roster. Winner – Paige and A.J. Lee

The Intercontinental Championship Ladder match contains 6 extremely capable Superstars, and is a guarantee to keep us on the edge of our seats. However, in my opinion, there are only 3 participants that have a legitimate claim to the title in Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan. Bad News Barrett has lost cleanly several times in recent weeks and just doesn’t have any momentum at this point in time.

Daniel Bryan should be all smiles this Sunday

Daniel Bryan should be all smiles this Sunday

He is a solid performer, but the WWE needs someone to bring back the importance to the IC Title that it has seemingly lost over the years. In all honesty, the guy to do this is Daniel Bryan as he has the support of the “Yes!” Movement and the cache’ to make the IC Title prestigious once again. Dolph Ziggler is one of the best performers in the entire company, but I just can’t see him winning this time around and Dean Ambrose has the type of cult following that renders his need for a title, for legitimacy with the fans, less critical. I am going to predict that we will witness the aforementioned Sheamus on Raw, and he will challenge Bryan for the belt referencing his quick 18 second victory over him previously at WM 28. Winner – Daniel Bryan

Rusev puts his undefeated streak, along with his U.S. Championship on the line against John Cena in a match that has taken on a patriotic flavor. While it is the hip thing to do by cheering against Cena and everything that he stands for, it will be harder for fans to go against their country. Given the fact that Cena is undoubtedly a dedicated performer, and in this instance is defending the honor of America as well as attempting to pry the U.S. Title from the Soviet monster, I see the majority of fans actually behind Cena in this one for once.

Can Cena put an end to Rusev's dominant streak?

Can Cena put an end to Rusev’s dominant streak?

I have very high praise and respect for the job that Rusev and Lana have done  in making him into a seemingly unstoppable force. But unfortunately for our title holding Comrade, I just cannot see him getting the upper hand on Cena in this one. I have to go with Cena in this match as he will ride a wave of patriotism to victory and proudly bring the U.S. Championship back home. Even though I am predicting that Cena will win, I have a strong feeling that these two will continue to battle all the way through Payback. Winner – John Cena

In the matchup between Randy Orton and Seth Rollins we have to sense that The Viper will emerge victorious in order to complete his face turn. This angle has taken quite a long time to finally come to fruition, and we have simply seen Rollins get the upper hand too many times. I expect these two Superstars to have an extended match

Can The Viper overcome Rollins?

in the 20-25 minute range that will be full of twists and turns, including some outside interference from J & J Security. All this being said, Orton needs this victory more than Rollins in order to regain his place among the WWE elite. Don’t feel bad for Rollins though, as he still has his Money in the Bank briefcase that he is running out of time to cash in. Winner – Randy Orton

Bray Wyatt has been doing a phenomenal job promoting his match with The Undertaker single-handedly and really has thrived in his role as a misunderstood, albeit violent and somewhat psychotic, savior. His character has really come into his own and is so entertaining that fans are finding it difficult to resist allegiance with the “New Face of Fear”. Of course The Undertaker is an icon, a legend that is a Hall of Fame certainty and has earned the right to call his own shots at this point in his illustrious career.

A lot has been made of his intelligence level when it comes to “the business” side of wrestling, and his desire to help younger deserving talent when the time is right. He decided to put Brock Lesnar over last year, and I feel that he will do the same for Wyatt this year as well. Don’t be alarmed, as his status among the all time greats is already etched in granite, and he really has nothing to lose by putting over the young Wyatt. In my opinion, he will only enhance his already iconic status among his peers. Besides, I’m not exactly sure what we can expect from him after being off for a year but it says a lot about his character that he is making the effort in the first place. Wyatt has admitted that facing The Dead Man is a dream of his, and I expect him to be at his very best for such an important match. Winner – Bray Wyatt

Triple H welcomes Sting to the WWE ring at the biggest show in the industry, in a match that loyal fans of “The Vigilante” have anticipated for years. Regardless of the quality of match that these two will have, I have a hard time criticizing anything as it represents much more in regard to completing the career of Sting. That being said, I really feel that these two competitors will have a good match just based on their integrity and love for the business and fans.

Sting makes his long awaited Wrestlemania debut

Sting has stated that he wants to take Triple H down, and while I don’t see him putting an end to his career I do see him emerging with the victory in a hard fought match. We may be privy to several false finishes and mulitple momentum swings, with the end coming with Triple H having the advantage with his trusty sledgehammer only to have Sting cleverly counter with the finishing “Scorpion Death Drop”. Winner – Sting

Finally in the main event of the evening we finally are privileged to see Brock Lesnar, fresh off of signing his new contract renewal with the WWE, versus the young hot shot Roman Reigns. I have been impressed with the improvement of Reigns on the mic in the past two weeks and in multiple media appearances. The expectations for this match have changed significantly upon Lesnar renewing his WWE contract, thereby making the outcome much less predictable. I do not see Lesnar dominating Reigns the way that he ran through John Cena at SummerSlam.

Lesnar will reign this coming Sunday

Lesnar will reign this coming Sunday

In fact I am envisioning a back and forth battle with numerous close calls and lots of power moves on display. While I was leaning towards Reigns a week ago, I have changed my mind and am selecting Brock Lesnar to retain his WWE World Heavyweight Championship this Sunday. However, Reigns will return the favor later on in the year, possibly at Extreme Rules with perhaps some help from one Paul Heyman. Winner – Brock Lesnar
