Poyet charged by FA

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has been charged with improper conduct by the FA for kicking a water bottle container.

The incident occurred during the first half of the sides’ 1-1 draw at the KC Stadium and resulted in referee Mike Dean sending the Uruguayan to the stands.

The 47 year-old was left frustrated after midfielder Jack Rodwell was booked for diving on the edge of the Hull penalty area by Dean. Poyet furiously kicked the drinks container after his side weren’t awarded a free-kick, which drew the attention of the referee, who duly gave him his marching orders.

Before leaving the sidelines the Black Cat’s gaffer appeared to say something to Bruce, which incensed the Tiger’s manager. Bruce had to be restrained by the linesman as Poyet walked off down the tunnel, reappearing later on in the stands.

Bruce has been “formally reminded of his responsibilities” by the FA, while Poyet’s charge relates to him kicking out at the water bottles. The Sunderland boss has until 6pm GMT on Monday to respond to the charge.
