Gomis recovering after faint
- Updated: March 7, 2015

Striker Bafetimbi Gomis fainted during Swansea’s 3-2 defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday night.
The French striker dropped to the ground just after Spurs had taken the lead on seven minutes at White Hart Lane – the same ground where Fabrice Muamba collapsed almost exactly three years ago.
The 29 year-old was treated on the field before being stretchered off. Thankfully, he is recovering and it has since been revealed that the incident was caused by a vasovagal attack. This is where the body overreacts to certain triggers causing a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure.
Gomis has a history of similar incidents in France, playing for St Etienne and Lyon; and after the match Swans’ manager Garry Monk confirmed that the club was aware of the striker’s medical history; “We’re well aware of the history. We knew about this when he came to the club. He’s had all the medical checks that you can possibly do and it’s just part of his life. It’s to do with low blood pressure.”
Gomis acknowledged the crowd as he was being stretchered off and even wanted to continue playing. Later that night he tweeted: “I wanted to reassure you concerning my health, it actually looks much more scary than physically dangerous and I am feeling well now.”
Swansea’s medical team will assess Gomis ahead of their next game, which is on March 16th against Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium.
