WWE Raw Highlights

The first Raw after the Fastlane pay-per-view has come and gone and a lot of events took place, although not all of them were earth shattering. We had our first chance to hear from Randy Orton, the return of the Prime Time Players, and the latest inductees in this years WWE Hall of Fame ceremony were revealed. I will cover my top 3 moments from the show and discuss why I chose them. As always, any and all feedback is appreciated.

Lets start with my 3rd favorite segment from Monday’s show. We had a rematch from Fastlane for the WWE Tag Team Titles, between Tyson Kidd and Cesaro vs. The Uso’s. The match itself was relatively long for a televised contest, but these two teams were able to sustain a decent pace with some solid action. The end came with Tyson Kidd attempting a pinfall, while putting both of his feet on the top rope for added leverage. Naomi was in the right place at the right time and pushed Kidd’s feet off of the ropes, which didn’t go unnoticed by Natalya who immediately rushed over to shove Naomi down hard onto the ringside floor. Natalya then proceeded to push Jimmy Uso off of the top rope causing a DQ. While Kidd and Cesaro have only been together for a brief period of time, they certainly seem to have a chemistry that the WWE really needs to capitalize on. I feel that it would be a smart idea to have this duo maintain their WWE Tag Team Title reign for the forseeable future. On a side note, it appeared that Natalya legitimately injured her ankle when Naomi pulled her down off of the ring apron. I certainly hope that it was all part of the show and she is alright.

My second favorite moment on Raw was the confrontation between Rusev and John Cena. I am of the opinion that Cena does not get enough credit for his promo work, as it is of course trendy to dislike everything about him. While he may not be my favorite performer, no one can deny the fact that he is not a dedicated and consistent performer. Cena admitted that Rusev beat him at Fastlane, but that he did it in a way unbefitting of a true hero. Of course Lana, who I have been a fan of for her mic work, had an interesting rebuttal about how

Rusev does not feel that John Cena deserves a rematch a WM31

Cena simply gave up, like all Americans do. Rusev went on to say that he wanted Cena to admnit that he is better than Cena and that Russia is better than America. Cena warned Rusev not to bad mouth America, and that Americans never quit, work harder and come back stronger. Cena then tells Rusev that he will defeat him at WM31 and bring the U.S. Title back home to America where it belongs. The segment ends with Rusev telling John Cena that he doesn’t deserve a rematch at WM31 because he is just a quitter. We finally got to see Cena make this match about patriotism, and Rusev played the part of heel perfectly by denying Cena the rematch, thus letting the crowd down and casting a shadow of doubt over whether or not the hero will indeed get his opportunity to defend his country. This should undoubtedly lead to Rusev eventually granting Cena the rematch at WM31, where I believe Cena will capture the U.S. Title as the American hero defending the honor of his country.

My favorite segment from this week’s Raw was the exchange between Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman. Reigns received a slightly warmer response from the crowd than in previous weeks. He starts off by admitting that he had one hell of a month, but that he overcame it all and can finally say that he is going to the main event at WM31. He admits that he knew most people were cheering for the other guy, when Daniel Bryan’s music hits.

Bryan talked about how Reigns has the size and athleticism that the WWE covets, but that a lot of guys have had that combination only to lack the heart that an underdog like Bryan has. Bryan admits that he disliked Reigns because of the other intangibles, and gave it everything he had at Fastlane but it wasn’t enough. He mentioned that Reigns has more heart than Bryan had anticipated and that all he could say was congratulations. Bryan said that because of the talent AND heart that Reigns posesses, he would be glad to have him as a tag team partner for the Raw main event. He finished by saying that Reigns better go to WM31 and beat the crap out of Brock Lesnar in the main event. In addition to Bryan’s praise, Reigns received a huge boost from the always brilliant Heyman. Reigns is told that Heyman would choose him over any WWE Superstar from any era, and that you would have to be a fool to say that Reigns isn’t THE one.

However, while Reigns is the one, he isn’t going up against just any WWE Superstar. Reigns is going against an unslayable beast that simply cannot be beaten. Reigns talks about Lesnar respecting him, but that he really doesn’t care because when he’s finished with him, Lesnar isn’t going to like him anyway. Bryan and Heyman did a fantastic job of putting Reigns over to the crowd and deserve a lot of credit for doing so. I love watching Paul Heyman work his magic, as he never seems to let us down with his smug, witty, and intelligent psychological words and behaviors. Bryan also deserves a ton of credit for helping Reigns to have such a solid match at Fastlane and to continue to help put him over the very next evening as well. Bryan is just the right wrestler to help Reigns repair his image with the crowd and he has done just that with two days work.

That’s all for now ladies and gentleman, but I will be back soon with another thought provoking piece shortly as we will provide you with another installment of Ahhh, Push him very soon.
