WWE Fastlane Preview and Predictions

The time has come for another WWE Pay-Per-View event, this Sunday, February 22 and this one holds extra importance as Fastlane will undoubtedly help to shape the storylines leading into this year’s Wrestlemania. Fastlane, taking place in Memphis, Tennessee has 5 scheduled matches and the highly anticipated showdown between Triple H and Sting. So without further ado, let’s discuss each matchup and what I predict will take place this Sunday.

1. The Number One Contender Match

Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns are fighting for the opportunity to be in the main event at Wrestlemania

Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns are fighting for the opportunity to be in the main event at Wrestlemania

Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns will square off for the right to be in the main event at Wrestlemania. This match holds special significance due to the fact that Reigns won The Royal Rumble, which has always guaranteed a spot in the main event at WM. However, when fan favorite Daniel Bryan was able to come back from his neck injury it threw a wrench into the plans for the WWE. Reigns has been considered as the future main event superstar by WWE brass, including Mr. McMahon himself, but may not be quite ready to assume that role just yet. Bryan has such a popular appeal with the WWE Universe that it would be hard not to push him without alienating the fanbase. Of course we must consider the elephant in the room and discuss the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar and his future in the business. Rumors have been circulating that Lesnar may be itching to make a return to the UFC Octagon, to take care of what he sees as unfinished business, while his body will still let him. The status of his WWE contract may soon allow this to happen, but we cannot predict anything for sure. I have a feeling that Lesnar will take considerable interest in this match and the outcome, as it affects him directly, which will most likely lead to a triple threat main event at WM 31.

Prediction:  Brock Lesnar causing a Double DQ leaving no winner

2. United States Championship Match

I did have a hard time swallowing John Cena accepting a quest towards Rusev and the U.S. Title, especially after his intense and endless pursuit of defeating Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Title. This past Monday changed my mind, however, as Cena cut a rather convincing promo that unleashed his desire to be the man to put an end to Rusev’s undefeated streak and bring the U.S. Title home. Rusev has much more to lose in this confrontation, as I feel that the

Rusev should continue his undefeated streak into Wrestlemania 31

WWE needs to capitalize on his heat with fans and continue to build him towards a main event level superstar. I do not see Cena losing cleanly in this match, but I do see him building on the aggression that we saw this past Monday and eventually losing control enough to give Rusev a victory by DQ.

Prediction: Rusev by DQ

WWE Diva, Paige.

3. WWE Divas Championship

Nikki Bella has been on quite a tear recently, and her work both inside and outside of the ring has improved drastically. I really feel as though she has deserved the push that she has received, and will continue to raise the bar for the Divas division. Paige started out quite hot, winning the Divas Championship in her debut performance, but has cooled off some in recent weeks. I believe that Paige has the type of character and in-ring ability that the fans will be drawn to regardless of whether she holds the Divas Championship. The real payoff for the WWE will be the anticipated return of A.J. Lee from injury and a WM matchup with Nikki. The question mark is of course Nikki’s twin sister Brie, who has undergone a strange change in attitude in the past few weeks. First, Brie was responsible for her Nikki’s unfair treatment by The Authority when she left to care for her husband. She returned only to have her sister turn on her, and eventually became Nikki’s personal assistant for 30 days. Recently she has taken on more of Nikki’s heel persona and seems to be on the same page as her sister. Fans have been waiting for Brie to turn on her sister, which I feel will happen but not at Fastlane. I see Brie helping Nikki defeat Paige, at which point on Raw Nikki will proclaim that there is no one that can defeat her and we are witness to the return of the aforementioned Lee.

Prediction: Nikki Bella

4. WWE Intercontinental Championship

The lunatic fringe Dean Ambrose.

The lunatic fringe Dean Ambrose.

Bad News Barrett managed to win the IC Championship fairly quickly after returning from injury. He is a solid worker with good mic skills, and is in need of a good solid performer to matchup against. Enter Dean Ambrose, who is widely embraced by the fans and is also a good solid worker with decent mic skills. I am very excited to see what these two can bring to the table in what could easily end up being the match of the night. I see this storyline continuing beyond Fastlane and into WM 31. I see this match being very competitive from start to finish with Bad News Barrett managing to maintain his grasp on the IC Championship.

Prediction: Bad News Barrett

5. WWE Tag Team Championship

Will this dynamic new duo go to Wrestlemania with the gold around their waists?

Will this dynamic new duo go to Wrestlemania with the gold around their waists?

This storyline has introduced heat between Natalya and Naomi and their respective men. The Uso’s are solid workers that are continually improving each and every night, but their act has grown a little stale with me. The entire tag team division needs a shot of excitement, and this is where Cesaro and Tyson Kidd can capitalize and prove how good they really are. Many have been praising the abilities of Cesaro for quite some time, and I feel that the WWE will use his pairing with Kidd to really find out what they are capable of. Kidd is widely known as one of the best technical wrestlers in the entire business, and has been itching for a chance to get back onto the main roster. I see Kidd and Cesaro riding this wave of momentum all the way to a victory this Sunday.

Prediction: Cesaro and Tyson Kidd

6. Triple H and Sting

The highly anticipated meeting between Triple H and Sting

The highly anticipated meeting between Triple H and Sting

The long awaited face to face meeting between Triple H and Sting is finally scheduled to take place at Fastlane. Many are hoping that not only will Sting provide some insight as to why he decided to cost The Authority their match with Team Cena at Survivor Series, but we may get official word that these two will face off at WM 31. Will Triple H, Seth Rollins and The Authority have something planned for The Icon, or will Sting get the upper hand? I have a feeling that no matter what happens, we will be talking about it for weeks to come.

Prediction: Sting gets the upper hand leading to Triple H challenging him to a match at WM 31

Will Bray Wyatt finally realize his dream to face The Undertaker at Wrestlemania?

Will Bray Wyatt finally realize his dream to face The Undertaker at Wrestlemania?

Of course we still have a few wild cards as superstars like Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton still need to fit into a storyline for Wrestlemania. I believe that some more light will be shed on a few of these storylines this Sunday at Fastlane, but also that the WWE will save a few to be revealed on Raw the next night. Whichever storylines take shape at Fastlane will undoubtedly help to make the build up to Wrestlemania 31 a fun ride for us all.

I am the Co-Founder, Editor and Head Writer for I want our writers to show you, the avid reader their passion. But, that does not mean that I always have to agree with them. In this case, I do not.

I don’t not agree with everything. I do think Cesaro and Tyson Kidd will become Tag Team Champions. I also believe that Ambrose and Barrett will be the best “wrestling” match on the card, and Barrett will retain. But the feud will continue and Ambrose will win eventually.

Cena will be beaten cleanly by Rusev. This will set-up a huge match between the two of them for WrestleMania in which it will be Rusev’s perfect record vs. Cena’s career. Then Cena will win and be the first person to beat Rusev.

There will not be a winner in the Brayn Reins match. And it will be because of interference, but it will not be Brock Lesnar. It will be Stephen Farrelly and that will lead to him and Bryan wrestling at WrestleMania and Reins and Lesnar for the Heavy Weight title. What, you don’t know who Stephen Farrelly is? Google him…….Fella.
