Jared Allen Wins Salute to Service Award
- Updated: February 4, 2015

Former Vikings defensive end and current Chicago Bears defensive end, Jared Allen won the Salute to Service award this year presented by the USAA, which he accepted at the 4th annual NFL honors awards ceremony. The awards ceremony took place in Arizona, the night before the Super Bowl. Allen said “I am honored and excited to receive this award on behalf of all of those who serve this great country.” Jared won the award over Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver, Vincent Jackson. Allen makes a difference in many lives with his “Homes for Wounded Warriors Foundation.” The five- time Pro Bowler makes homes accessible for veterans who return home from war with debilitating injuries. He builds, remodels, or purchases homes to fit the new lifestyle of a disabled military member. Since he started this organization in 2009, it has raised more than $3.5 million with the goal of donating 10 homes a year to wounded warriors. That’s not all; Allen also started the Helping Heroes Gala, which is held annually around Veterans Day. The gala helps raise funds for Homes for Wounded Warriors. Jared does so much for the veterans and their families with holding golf tournaments, galas, giving back with donations, and taking time out to visit the military. This will mark the second consecutive year Jared Allen is a finalist for the Salute to Service award presented by the USAA. Congratulations, Jared!
