Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Wilfried Bony from Swansea for a fee that could rise to £28 million.

The Ivorian international has signed a four and-a-half year deal with City who have now spent £253.5 million on strikers since 2009.

Bony, who is currently at the African Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast, will wear the number 14 shirt on his return to Premier League action. “It’s a great feeling for me, it’s a big honour to be here and it’s a great challenge,” the 26 year-old said.

City have paid Swansea an initial fee of £25 million but that could rise based on performance related add-ons. If it does reach £28 million, Bony will become the joint most expensive African footballer with Yaya Toure, who City signed from Barcelona in 2010.
