The Miami Sound Machine

Half of the people reading this article will not even know who Gloria Estefan is, the other half of you are now singing Conga, but can the Miami Dolphins control themselves any longer? The Miami Dolphins made some noise with their defense in a 37-0 win over the San Diego Chargers. Over the next 3 weeks they will have a chance to go from making some noise to the Miami sound machine.

The New England Patriots are still the class of the division, but Miami did defeat them in the first game of the season. And they will be in a dog fight with the also improved Buffalo Bills for second place in the division and perhaps a play-off spot.

The Miami Dolphin defense is better than most people realize, and seemingly improving week after week. They did not allow a good Charger team with Phillip Rivers at the helm to score any points Sunday. Including that Chargers win, their defense has held the opposing team to 14 points or less in 4 of their 5 wins.

We will know if the Dolphins are real in the next 3 weeks by how much noise they make. This coming Sunday they travel to Detroit after the Lions have a bye week. And as of the writing of this article it looks as though the Lions will have both Reggie Bush and Calvin Johnson at their disposal. Make no mistake, the Lions are for real and are leading their division with a 6-2 record. The following week the in-division rival Buffalo Bills, who have already beat Miami in Buffalo, come to Sun Life Stadium for a Thursday night prime-time showdown. Then they have 10 days to prepare for the Denver Broncos in Denver.

If Miami can go 2-1 in their next 3, I predict a 10-6 overall record and a play-off spot in the AFC. Anything less than that will leave them with a winning record, but no games in January.
