Carson Cashes In

I know the Arizona Cardinals got Carson Palmer on the cheap from the Raiders. I have heard over and over again how great of a guy he is, and that may be true. I realize he is playing really well this season and that the offense the Cardinals run is very conducive to his abilities. I also realize the year the Cardinals are having with Palmer as their quarterback. They are 5-0 and have also won 12 of Palmer’s last 14 starts. He is also the first quarterback in league history to throw over 4,000 yards in a season for 3 different teams. Those teams being his current team in Arizona, with the Raiders and twice with the Bengals.

But I also know that he is 34 years old and he missed 3 games this year with a nerve issue in his throwing shoulder. And $50 million is a huge gamble on a guy with an uncertain throwing shoulder at 34 years old. However, according to Jess Root of SBNation, Palmer’s contract is in actuality a 1 year contract worth $20.5 million with two option years for a total of $50 million.

But let’s take a sentence to address the elephant in the room Larry Fitzgerald. I f the Cardinals are paying Palmer $20.5 million, are you then going to pay your franchise receiver another $23.6 million against the salary cap in 2015?
